Who we are: The Department of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at Heidelberg University Hospital has a clinical and research mandate. We are embedded in a university campus with a strong interdisciplinary health research focus (incl. the Heidelberg Institute for Global Health). We need your expertise, passion and drive to support the team. The position is limited to 3 years with the intention to make it longer term. The position will be based in Heidelberg, Germany; partial remote work will be possible. Job-ID: V000012675 Field of application: Department of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine Location: Heidelberg Start date: June 2024 Job Category: Wissenschaft und Lehre Working hours: full-time (100 % Limitation: limited (36 months - extension is sought) Contract: TV-L Your tasks Responsibilities: As an Epidemiologist/ Data scientist, you will contribute to several ongoing projects in the team which require advanced data analysis. You will also be expected to lead methodologically on projects that focus on data analysis to develop new diagnostic prediction tools. There will be opportunities to develop your own ideas on projects and apply for funding. Job responsibilities will include: Analyzing large data sets and developing prediction tools based on traditional structured database tools and «big data» approaches with a special focus on Bayesian analysis Designing, conducting, and interpreting statistical analysis, including analysis of cohort, cross-sectional and clinical studies Engaging with project collaborators, stakeholders and international organizations (incl. WHO) in large international projects Writing of manuscripts for publication and preparing scientific/project presentations (incl. travel for presentations) Supporting / leading grant development activities Support / supervision of junior researchers in designing and performing data analysis Your profile Master or PhD degree in (Bio-)Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Epidemiology, or a related field Minimum 2 years of experience in data analyses using frequentist and Bayesian approaches. Experience in handling large data sets. Experience in machine learning techniques would be an asset Knowledge of infectious diseases. Knowledge of diagnostics research would be an asset Proficiency in coding and analysis using R, SAS, python, STATA or similar applications; ability to provide custom-designed reports and presentations of data Ability to work independently and on a result-oriented basis. Willingness to expand knowledge base and take on new topics.
